Rohm Co. Ltd has stepped to procure the 200mm wafer fab from Renesas Electronics Corp. for 450 million yen (about $3.7 million). The procurement of Renesas’ Shiga factory is scheduled to complete in February 2016 and to be used as a manufacturing line to produce to IGBT and MOSFET power devices and piezoelectric MEMS devices.
Under Renesas the fab is capable of 150nm CMOS production.
In August 2014, Rohm created a manufacturing business based at the 6-inch Miyazaki wafer fab of its Lapis Semiconductor subsidiary based on the combination of thin-film piezoelectric processes and MEMS. At the time Rohm said it planned to move production to 200mm-diameter wafers.
