To give a good look to the ongoing projects the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Defence visited the public sector units under the Ministry of Defence. The 14-member panel led by committee chairperson Major General B.C.Khanduri (retd.) went around a few facilities of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd, Bharat Electronics Ltd and BEML Ltd, according to the PSUs.
At the HAL airport, the members witnessed a spectacular flying display that included a formation of the indigenous LCA Tejas fighter plane, the Intermediate Jet Trainer, the Jaguar (Darin III) upgraded by HAL, the Light Combat Helicopter and the weaponised Advanced Light Helicopter Rudra.
HAL said its CMD T.Suvarna Raju and senior officials apprised the team of MPs from the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha of activities at the Engine Division, the PSLV/GSLV launch vehicle shop floors of the Aerospace Division, ALH design and flight hangars and the LCA manufacturing facility.
At BEL, the team was briefed on the R&D activities and in-house projects in Defence electronics.
At BEML, it was appraised of the progress on indigenous activities related to Defence equipment, mining and construction and railways, according to their officials.
